The future of solar energy is so bright that I will not even use any clichà © s about sunglasses or whatever. I will say, however, that full brightness can not be appreciated until you factor in the concept of net metering.
There are many environmental and political reasons to go solar. This clean energy, also presents us with a platform that is not dependent on coal and foreign oil or fossil fuels. It seems a natural choice for energy production, but the cost of installing solar energy systems is not cheap. Fortunately, tax incentives and favorable loan options have come a long way to overcome this problem. The real icing on the cake for some people, however, is the concept of net metering.
How Does your utility charge last month electricity? Go ahead and dig up the bill or just make an estimate. Now, what if you could get that number removed or reduced to next month after month for nothing? Consider how much money would be saved over 1 year, 10 years or 30 years. Well, that's what net metering is question.
What is net metering? It is a glorious thing. In essence, refers to reducing its electricity bill for the sale of electricity by their solar panels to the utility company. Huh? Think of the process. How much electricity do you use during the day to say on Wednesday? The usual answer is not much because most of us are at work while the kids are in school. During this time, the energy produced by panels solar in the home can be fed back into the grid automatically. When this happens, the electric meter in your home runs backwards. When you need electricity during the night, the meter runs forward. Each month, you pay for the net meter reading, which is the difference between what you use and what is put back into the system. This is often no or few dollars.
Are there any drawbacks to net metering? Yes and no. The only real downside is that some states do not offer, so you need to check before going out to buy a system. The second disadvantage is much lower. While you can reduce your bill for nothing, really can not generate money from the utility by selling them more energy it uses. If that happens, your bill is simply reset.
There are a lot of benefits to go with solar energy. That said, do not forget the cash savings often overlooked associated with net metering.
