Grid-Tie system costs

It is difficult to estimate exactly what you will pay for a system. Prices and installation costs vary widely depending on local competition, availability of hardware, and the difficulty of the installation. OK? Next topic.

But wait! That does not help at all right? There are some basic general rules that can be used to estimate the cost of the system. The solar panels have recently fallen in price worldwide production has increased.

A memorable number is $ 8-9/watt of an installed system. That means if you decide you want a 2,000-watt system that can wait pay between $ 16,000 - $ 18,000 before incentives. So what happens in that number? In general, the team runs about $ 4 - $ 4.50 per watt for the panels, mounting, wiring, inverter and various fasteners. The groups themselves are running about $ 3.50/watt.

The remaining $ 4 - $ 5 per watt covers labor, licenses, insurance, equipment, overhead (offices, phones, annual waste of the owner of Maui), and the benefit to the installation contractor. Sound like a lot? These guys earn it. Unlike some routes where cheap, unskilled labor can call out work in a few hours, solar energy can be complicated and roof work is dangerous.

Out of Network System Costs

Off-grid systems are much more complicated (= expensive complicated if you have not got it already). Outside the distribution network can range between 20-50% of tie systems over the network. Thus, a budget number is about $ 13-15/watt meeting by a grid system.

Why so much? One word: batteries. Batteries add a tremendous amount of expense and complexity. A deep cycle batteries for use outside the network can run $ 300, and often the system requires 16 batteries. We're talking $ 5,000 for batteries. Then there is the charge controller, copper wiring for all batteries, and most systems need some kind of enclosure.

However, most people who are considering off-grid system does not have a lot of options when it comes to energy sources, so spending $ 13/watt or spending the night by a candle is an easy choice.

There are some kits plug and play much less (about $ 7.50 per watt), but are intended for small houses and you have to install yourself.

    Good Luck

  2. I am sure it is going to depend on what size you get and how many you need to actually make an impact on your utility bills. Don’t forget about the tax rebate. That helps.
Home Depot has 5 watt for $129 & 10 watt panels for $239.http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stor…
Lowes has them too & their prices are better.http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=pr…
Here is a site that might give you a little more info. It suggests products for what type of system you need. While it sounds cheap enough, getting panels at Lowes, there is a lot more to it than that. A lot more money too.http://www.solarpanelstore.com/index.php…http://www.suncityenergy.com/
If you live in Oklahoma, have you considered wind power?

  3. I think VERY VERY expensive
go to home depot and see if they sell them and get an estimate by someone that works there!!
I think that they are worth it because you could save hundreds of dollars in oil/ wood!!!
