It is important that when working on your back link strategy that takes into account the type of backward linkages are required for the site. If your site is about cell phones then the links you want into your site must somehow include the keyword "cell". There's no point getting a link on your website from other websites that have the words click 'here' or 'buy now'.
So if your site is about dog training, for example, and is approaching a website for a link back, make sure they know you want to link training with you using the keywords "dog" or similar link.
